"I was charged $3500 for a simple chapter 7 case when an honest lawyer would’ve charged me only $1500. Moreover, Jonathan refused to sign my reaffirmation agreement and asked for an additional amount of $979 when I was only a few days away from the day scheduled for my bankruptcy hearing. I refused to pay him the $979 even when he kept repeating that he would accept two payments. I told him that I already paid him $3500 and he never mentioned that there will be additional charges when I signed the contract. So, he told me that I can sign it myself and go to trial. As a result, I took the reaffirmation agreement to another lawyer who only charged me $150 to help me fill it in. The lawyer was in complete shock when he heard that Jonathan refused to sign the reaffirmation agreement by saying:”He charged you $3500 and refused to sign the reaffirmation agreement? Where did you find this lawyer?” He then added after looking at my petition:”This is a simple chapter 7 case. I would’ve only charged you $1500.” Add to that, Jonathan gave me the wrong deadline for the reaffirmation agreement. He told me that I needed to sign it before 11/20/2025 or else my lien holder will repossess my vehicle even if I continued to make the monthly payments, but both the lawyer who helped me with the reaffirmation agreement and Jefferson Capital (the third party that represented my lien holder) assured me that the deadline was 1/20/2026. The lawyer added that I didn’t have to go to trial as Jonathan claimed. I confronted Jonathan in person and on the phone about all the information I mentioned, but he was constantly interrupting me and attempting to shut me out, thinking that this way I would get frustrated and keep my mouth shut. This was the moment I realized I was dealing with a narcissistic. I had to keep my cool and stay calm during the bankruptcy process until it gets discharged, yet my blood was boiling. I admit that this was also my fault. I should’ve done more research and called more lawyers before hiring and paying Jonathan, but I trusted him. His rating at that time was five stars and he sounded very nice and genuine. He showed empathy when he learned that I was scammed over eight thousand dollars by a consolidate company. I can never forgive Jonathan for the stress he put me through when I was trying to find a lawyer to help me with the reaffirmation agreement since I couldn’t do it on my own. I will file a complaint to the American Bar Associates and the Office of Attorney Ethics to make sure no one will fall in this trap again."
