"I retained Smeloff & Associates to represent me in a personal injury automobile accident case. While my case was eventually settled, my experience with transparency and communication regarding the settlement funds was disappointing and concerning. I was provided with a settlement breakdown and a check issued by the law firm; however, despite requesting it, I was never shown a copy of the original insurance settlement check or proof that the insurance funds were deposited into the firm’s client trust account. As a client, I believe I am entitled to full transparency regarding the handling and receipt of my settlement funds. Clear documentation and open communication are extremely important when it comes to legal and financial matters. Unfortunately, I felt that my reasonable requests for proof of payment were avoided rather than addressed directly. I hope the firm improves its communication and transparency practices so future clients do not experience similar concerns. Be very careful with this law firm, especially if English is not your first language. Throughout my case, I experienced serious lack of transparency and communication, particularly regarding my settlement. On more than one occasion, my case was settled without my knowledge, and I was not informed until I directly confronted them. Despite repeatedly requesting documentation, I was never shown a copy of the insurance company’s settlement check or official proof of payment. Instead, I was provided with internal paperwork and emails, but not the actual documents issued by the insurance company. This made it impossible for me to independently verify the true settlement amount. As a client, I believe I had the right to full disclosure and transparency regarding my own case and funds. Unfortunately, I felt dismissed and treated as if I would not question or understand the process because English is not my primary language. This experience caused unnecessary stress and mistrust. I strongly encourage anyone especially women or individuals with limited English proficiency to be extremely cautious, ask detailed questions, and demand full documentation at every step."
